Half day Cycling Tour: ride from Kandy to its suburbs
The half day cycle excursion from Kandy to Kadugannawa is a ride in Kandy's suburbs, where you get to see locations of interest. The Tour starts near the clock tower in Kandy and travels along a set path to Kadugannawa. Along the way, you will visit a batik factory, the Gannoruwa Agro Farm, a garment factory in Dodamwala and the shrine to the god "Natha", also in Dodamwala.
At the batik factory, you will get to experience the process of manufacturing clothes, accessories and other items, beautifully coloured using this technique. This facility includes an outlet in case you wish to buy any batik items.
Next, among the attractions is the Gannoruwa Agro Farm, an 80-hectare facility where you can see the best of local agriculture. A diverse array of agricultural facilities and industries such as vegetable gardens, beekeeping, plant pathology centre, insect zoo, fruit gardens, jack gardens and herbal gardens are on display.
After visiting the Gannoruwa Agro Farm, you come to the town of Dodamwala, where you will be able to see the garment industry in full swing. Garments are Sri Lanka’s main export, and the country has a rich history of producing the best quality apparel. Also, in Dodamwala you’ll visit the historic “Natha” shrine, dedicated to a deity believed to be a guardian of Sri Lanka. You finish the tour in the Kadugannawa town. The return to Kandy is provided by car or can optionally done by train (subject to availability).
This cycle tour is of moderate difficulty, the terrain is not very steep, although you can expect uphill and downhill cycling. Cycling Holidays provides an experienced guide, bicycles, helmets, snacks and water. Additional food and beverages may be bought at your expense.
